I've been surfing for 19 years. I don't profess to be a surfing legend, but I do have reasonable ability and love the sport. I wanted a Longboard for a local break, but they are so expensive. I thought after 19 years, it was about time I had a crack at making my own boards.
After a lot of research I was ready. The Longboard was a great success. It went very well and it cost less than half the price of one off the rack. Next was the Fish style board which is also a little ripper.
The problem I found was that I spent more time researching how to do it than I did actually making it. The information out there was either too complex, with no pictures; or too simple and not very helpful. There are a couple of DVD's out there that show professionals making it look easy... not that helpful, and for the price, it kind of defeats the purpose of saving money on a board. Other sites were nothing more than advertisements. I ended up having to draw a little information from a lot of sites & resources and even then I had to guess in parts of the construction.
That's what inspired me to create this website. You need a comprehensive, yet simple guide to making your own board. You are not a professional shaper with access to all the specialist equipment. You are just a guy (or gal) who wants to make a board in his (her) own garage with a minimum of tools. This guide is designed for you.
A simple guide, accompanied by easy to follow diagrams, pictures and videos will let you make your own board in less than a week..... Go for it!
